In the Perilous Adventures Warbands Guide (PAWG), gear is your warband’s lifeline—tools, weapons, and armor that mean the difference between standing tall and sinking into the dirt of a perilous world. Whether you’re new to tabletop roleplaying or a seasoned adventurer, this page lists everything you need to survive, from a bone-crafted spear to a sturdy warhorse. We use the d100 system for combat rolls—lower is better—and gear ties into your skills and attributes to keep you fighting. With our warband—Torren, Lira, Eryn, Kael, Veyra, Raeyas, Locryn, Korrak, and Kaelen—we’ll show how it works with examples and math. No battles here—just the goods to arm your legend. Gear Basics
- Starting Gear: Pick 2-3 items at creation (GM approves)—a weapon, armor, and a personal trinket from your background (e.g., Kael’s cracked runestone).
- Cost: Measured in Silver Coins (SC)—buy more with loot or trade; starting SC varies by GM (e.g., 50-100 SC).
- Weight: In pounds (lbs). Carry Capacity = STR x 2 lbs—exceed it, take -10 to physical rolls per 10 lbs over (max -50, then immobile).
- Quality: Standard gear listed—masterwork (+10 rolls, double cost) or improvised (-10 rolls, half cost) at GM discretion.
Newbie Tip: Start with what fits—Locryn’s rapier for finesse, Torren’s sword for power—and add as you loot!
Weapons
Weapons deal damage in combat, boosted by attributes + Margin of Success. Melee Weapons use STR (STR/10 + weapon + Margin) unless finesse—then DEX (DEX/20 + weapon + Margin)—while Ranged Weapons always use DEX (DEX/20 + weapon + Margin).
Melee Weapons
- Dagger: 10 damage, 5 ft (thrown 20 ft, DEX/20), 1 lb, 5 SC—Finesse—Lira’s backup.
- Rapier: 12 damage, 5 ft, 2 lbs, 20 SC—Finesse—Locryn’s Dagmarthar (13 damage, +10 rolls, crit +10).
- Sword (One-Handed): 15 damage, 5 ft, 3 lbs, 20 SC—STR-based—Torren’s blade (+5 attack with shield).
- Greatsword (Two-Handed): 25 damage, 5 ft, 6 lbs, 40 SC—STR 50+, -10 defense—Heavy hitter.
- Axe (One-Handed): 18 damage, 5 ft, 4 lbs, 15 SC—STR-based—+10 vs. wood.
- Staff: 8 damage, 5 ft, 2 lbs, 2 SC—STR or DEX (finesse), +10 Spellcasting—Kaelen’s arcane aid.
- Spear: 12 damage, 10 ft (thrown 30 ft, DEX/20), 3 lbs, 10 SC—Finesse—Korrak’s Tidefang.
- Short Spear: 10 damage, 5 ft (thrown 20 ft, DEX/20), 2 lbs, 8 SC—Finesse—Lighter variant.
- Warhammer: 20 damage, 5 ft, 5 lbs, 25 SC—STR-based—Raeyas’ Malleus Crepusculi Dei (ignores 5 armor).
- Flail: 16 damage, 5 ft, 4 lbs, 20 SC—STR-based—+5 vs. shields.
Ranged Weapons
- Shortbow: 12 damage, 60 ft (-10/60 ft beyond), 2 lbs, 25 SC—Veyra’s Windreaver (15 damage, +10 ft range).
- Longbow: 18 damage, 100 ft (-10/100 ft beyond), 3 lbs, 50 SC—STR 40+.
- Hand Crossbow: 16 damage, 60 ft (-10/60 ft beyond), 4 lbs, 30 SC—Locryn’s sniper (+5 attack).
- Heavy Crossbow: 22 damage, 80 ft (-10/80 ft beyond), 6 lbs, 40 SC—Ignores 10 armor.
- Sling: 8 damage, 40 ft (-10/40 ft beyond), 0.5 lb, 1 SC—Crafted bullets (+5 attack, 1 SC/20).
Species-Specific Weapons
- Human Bonecarver Dagger: 12 damage, 5 ft (thrown 20 ft), 1 lb, 8 SC—Finesse—Torren’s brutal edge.
- Duskborn Shadowsting: 10 damage, 5 ft, 1 lb, 10 SC—Finesse—+10 Stealth in dim light—Lira’s killer.
- Embermarked Emberlash: 14 damage + 5 fire, 10 ft, 2 lbs, 15 SC—Finesse (casters)—Eryn’s whip.
- Windrunner Windreaver Bow: 15 damage, 70 ft, 2 lbs, 30 SC—Veyra’s swift shot.
- Stonekin Rockmaul: 22 damage, 5 ft, 6 lbs, 35 SC—STR-based—+10 DR—Raeyas’ might.
- Tideborn Bonefang Spear: 12 damage, 10 ft (thrown 30 ft, DEX/20), 3 lbs, 15 SC—Finesse—Korrak’s bone blade.
Armor
Armor reduces damage taken—stacks with defense rolls (DEX + Acrobatics Margin).
- Cloth/Padded: 2 DR, 5 lbs, 5 SC—Kaelen’s minimal cover.
- Leather: 5 DR, 10 lbs, 20 SC—Locryn’s agility—Kael’s choice.
- Hide: 8 DR, 15 lbs, 30 SC—-10 Stealth—Veyra’s rugged fit.
- Chainmail: 10 DR, 20 lbs, 50 SC—-10 Stealth/Acrobatics, STR 40+ or -10 rolls—Torren’s tank—Raeyas’ fine mail.
- Scale: 12 DR, 25 lbs, 70 SC—-15 Stealth/Acrobatics, STR 50+ or -15 rolls—Heavy duty.
- Plate: 15 DR, 40 lbs, 100 SC—-20 Stealth/Acrobatics/Movement (20 ft), STR 60+ or -20 rolls—Epic defense.
- Shield (Wooden/Metal): +5/+8 DR, 5/8 lbs, 10/20 SC—+5/+10 defense rolls—Raeyas’ bulwark.
Mounts and Transport
- Warhorse: 50 ft Movement, 200 lbs carry, 15 HP, 100 SC—+10 Athletics for rider—Torren’s steed.
- Desert Runner: 60 ft Movement, 150 lbs carry, 10 HP, 80 SC—+10 Survival in heat—Veyra’s ride.
- Cart: 20 ft Movement (drawn), 500 lbs carry, 10 HP, 50 SC—Holds 4—Warband haul.
- River Skiff: 30 ft Movement (rowed), 300 lbs carry, 8 HP, 60 SC—Korrak’s watercraft.
Miscellaneous Gear
- Backpack: +10 lbs Carry Capacity, 2 lbs, 5 SC—Eryn’s stash.
- Torch: Lights 20 ft (dim 40 ft, 1 hour), 5 damage (fire), 1 lb, 1 SC (5-pack)—Lira’s light.
- Rope (50 ft, Hemp): Holds 200 lbs, +10 Athletics (climbing), 5 lbs, 2 SC—Kael’s lifeline.

- Korrak (Thrown DEX): Tidefang—target 60, rolls 20 (Margin 40)—20 + 12 + 40 = 72—Fast throw.
For Experienced Players
- Tactics: Finesse (Locryn’s 83) vs. STR (Torren’s 97)—DEX needs skill for Margin—Korrak’s 82 shines with speed—warband balance.
