New AEBS active
I’ve set up the new Airport Extreme Base Station and tied my existing Time Capsule to the network. As posted in my earlier post, the dual antenna to support 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks allows me to name the 802.11b and 802.11n networks with the same SSID. The newer Macbook and Macbook Pro line will failover from the 5Ghz to the 2.4.Ghz when the network signal degrades.
No real surprises. A match of Left4Dead did not reveal any loss of quality due to the loss of QoS from removing the Dlink 4300. I will test the MobileMe “Back to my Mac” functionality tomorrow.
ya know, I have the Time capsule (last gen) and I cannot seem to get time machine to back up consistently. It always seems to fail, and this is over wired or wireless. I think I have gotten 2 good backups off of the thing. I don’t know what’s going on, have you seen this with yours? I wonder if the new one would be any better.
Do your first backup using the wired network. Once you do that, subsequent backups over 802.11 will be faster and reliable.
My old Time Capsule works fine – though it had an issue for a while where corrupted filesystem caused the machine I was backing up to crash! That was very annoying.
I think part of the problem is the 802.11g backwards compatibility. The dual mode would be nice for that.
