Silverlight released, Microsoft to support Linux, pigs fly

Silverlight was released for Mac and Windows yesterday, as planned. The kicker is Microsoft plans on supporting and assisting in the development of Moonlight, the Mono-based implementation. Ars spoke to Miguel de Icaza – head on over for a good read.

In case you haven’t heard and are asking, “What is Silverlight?” – think Adobe Flash and Flex. If that doesn’t help, here’s the cut and paste:

Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plugin for delivering the next generation of .NET based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web. Silverlight offers a flexible programming model that supports JavaScript, .NET, and other languages.
