Oh, forgot to mention – D&D 4th Edition coming next year. From Wizard’s site, it sounds like they are going for a more cinematic, fluid rule set. Based on the sneak peaks, it looks like they are going the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords route. The timing is good – I was starting my design of a new spell system that allowed mages to be more effective at lower levels.

The changes are sure to alienate some long time players. I happen to enjoy the changes they have made with the reserved feats, the Warlock class, and the Martial Adepts. Classes are more evenly balanced through the levels, and allows fighters to scale at the higher levels, and magic users to be useful for more than 5 minutes. From the podcasts, it also sounds as if they are going to design monsters based on art and then playtest, rather than formula.
