A few weeks with the iPhone
Things I like:
- Form factor is great. Compared to the 8525 and Treo dimensions of 4.43 x 2.28 x 0.86 inches, this thing is svelte.
- Instant reattachment to 802.11b/g networks.
- The iPhone supports 802.11g. Slick.
- The screen is amazing. I have been watching video podcasts, and yes, buying some music videos from the iTMS.
- The on-screen keyboard is not as easy to use as the slide-out on the 8525. I do find I am much faster on the iPhone than I was on the Treo, though.
- EDGE speed improvements are noticeable.
- The camera is better than the nay-sayers would have you believe.
- Battery life has been quite good. Better than the 8525, which would sometimes drain dead within 12 hours (admittedly, with heavy 3G use).
- No need to visit mobile or WAP sites. I find the browser better than Opera Mobile and not even in the same category as Pocket IE.
Things that bug me:
- While improved, EDGE speed is still no 3G HSDPA or UMTS.
- The soft-button camera meant a lot of blurred or missed photos until I learned to hit the button, compose the shot, then release.
- No task list. Still bugs me.
- No note syncing. Still bugs me.
- Some sites crush Safari. Pownce is a good example.
